David Pyle '76

Please keep David in your prayers as he's currently dealing with kidney stones...  Here's what he shared : "Thanks for your prayers, and thank the Lord for pharmacology! My emergency meds (the strong stuff) have taken the edge off, but I have made my appointment with the urologist. Soonest they can see me is next week (January 5th), so if it gets bad again before then, ER, here I come!"

“The Song’s Salutation”
December 2011 -  A Reflection of the Year

Top 5 Challenges:
5. Surviving Africa’s sicknesses. Everyone had 4 months of typhoid and the baby had parasites and malaria. (Did you know that the typhoid preventative shots or pills do not “work” in Ghana?)
4. Doing homeschooling in Africa away from family.
3. Dealing with robberies -- a total of two laptops stolen, an expensive phone, wallet, and seminar funds of 3,000 US dollars.
2. Convincing local leaders and pastors to go beyond relief work and desire transformation both physically and spiritually in their local area.
1. Building an internship training center with its challenges in a different culture. It is such a slow process with nothing going according to plan, with economic inflation -- everything doubling in price, etc.

Top 5 Praises/Accomplishments:
5. Celebrated our 10th year wedding anniversary! We cherish this milestone (smile).
4. Finalized our ordination process. (It took us 10 years to both get a Masters of Divinity, 5 years of ministry experience, plus examination interview with ceremony following.)
3. Trained 92 local pastors, NGO workers and lay people in the Community Health Evangelism strategy this year. The following are trainings completed for Ghana’s leaders. We do not have a number for the untold trainings that are attended weekly by the local village communities and CHE volunteers.
TOT 1 (Trainer of Trainers):
· March 8th -12th, Sunyani- Brong Ahafo Region, 23 participants.
· November 1st - 5th, Garu Timpani- Upper East Region, 22 participants.
TOT 2:
· August 8th -12th, Sunyani- Brong Ahafo Region, 10 participants.
Microenterprise Training:
· April 18th -22nd, Accra- Greater Accra Region, 25 participants.
· August 22nd - 26th, Sunyani- Brong Ahafo Region, 12 participants.
Also the following are known CHE (Community Health Evangelism) ministries in regions directed /mentored by our CHE team in Ghana: Brong Ahafo- 2, Ashanti - 6, Eastern - 4, Northern – 2, Volta – 3.
2. Dagbe village had a spiritual breakthrough! In our former village in Dagbe, Ghana, the trainers that we trained uncovered some deep issues and a committee of trusted village leaders is now meeting at our CHE house. They are applying the CHE strategy and a seed project is near completion to promote cooperation in the village. The project is a community public toilet. We know this village well and know that it has been only by your prayers that God is being glorified in a time such as this.
1. We have a modified Training Center site plan finalized which incorporates the new skills Daihwan learned while in California. We can’t wait to see what it looks like when it is up and running.

Sending our love and holiday greetings,
The Song Family

Praises:
-- Dagbe village is seeing some breakthrough after 4 years of ministry.

Prayer Requests:
-- Building plans need to be accomplished safely.
-- Our immigration lawyer is very sick and we really need him to finish our residency process.

Please keep Dan in your thoughts and prayers. He's going to the doctor today for a check up. This was his FaceBook message...  "Ultrasound on my neck at 11:20 this morning!  This is a follow-up on the cancer surgery.  Just checking to make sure that my thyroid is completely gone.  Keepin' em crossed!"

From Karen Entingh Matson '80

Requesting prayer for a friend and his wife that they be given work visas in South America. They have left a southern communist country on a tourist visa. They are working in a Christian radio station.

Help a Family This Holiday Season

Prayer Request :  My husband Steve Skolik (DC Class of '88) had this little girl in his class last year.  He said they are a VERY poor family and now they've lost their home.  I have asked some of my friends here at DC to help out with a gift basket for the family containing winter hats, gloves, boots, socks, and anything else they can think of.  Just pray that they are taken care of by their community, church, friends, etc., during this difficult time.

Matt and Jenny Edward's Son - Eli

Matt and Jenny Pearson Edwards’ (both DC alumni – class of 1999) one year old son, Eli, started having seizures.  The first MRI showed a cyst on his brain.  There is another MRI scheduled for Monday to determine the next step.  Please pray for God’s healing touch on this little guy and for peace for Matt and Jenny as they go through this trial.
